How To Create A YouTube In-Stream Videos Ad Campaign Inside Google AdWords

  • What if you could generate 100s of views or clicks to
your video or landing page in just one day?
  • What if you only had to pay as little as 1 cent per view?

In-stream video ads or Trueview ads as they are sometimes called allow you to play your video before somebody else’s video. You only pay when someone watches your video ad for 30 seconds or if they engage with it.

Here’s how to create a YouTube In-Stream
Video Ad Campaign Inside Google AdWords

Watch the video below…

  • Log into your Google AdWords account by going to adwords.google.com
  • Where it says “All Campaigns” click the drop down
  • Select “Video Campaigns” then scroll down to the red box
  • Click the drop down
  • Click “video” for “video ads on YouTube and across the web”
  • Put your campaign name in here..I’ve got “Campaign 10”
  • Budget..I’m going to put $5.00 per day
  • Because I’m doing an in-stream video ad I unclick “YouTube Search” and unclick “Videos on Google partner sites”
  • Then you can also select “countries and territories”
  • I’m going to leave it as is but you can select United States or you can put in even your own town here if you just want to target a specific town or city
  • Languages..leave it as English but you can choose any language if you’re from a different country
  • Devices…I’m going to leave it at “advanced mobile and tablet options”
  • You can also schedule your ad and “ad delivery” I’m going to leave it as “Optimize for views” but you can also optimize for conversions or rotate evenly
  • Once you’ve done that click “Save and continue”
  • Now you’ve got to create an ad group
  • Before this was called “targeting groups” now it’s called “ad groups”
  • So give your ad group a name..I’m going to leave it as “Ad group #1”
  • You put your video URL in there and as soon as you put that in there it’s got “Video ad type” “drive views, awareness, or conversions”
  • And you can choose your video ad format which is “In-stream” or “In-display”
  • In this case I’m going to choose In-stream
  • You put your display URL in there..this is the
website address that appears in your ad
  • This can also be a video or your YouTube channel trailer..
    here’s my landing page
  • It’s got 3 characters too much so I’m going to remove the www. and http
  • Then for the final URL..this is the landing page where people
    go after clicking your ad
  • It could also be your YouTube watch page or your channel URL
  • In this case I’ve got my landing page
  • You can also select a companion banner
  • I’m just going to use the auto generated image
from the videos in the channel
  • Then give your ad a name..so I’ve got “Video ad 1”
  • The maximum cost per view (MPV)…this is the maximum you wish to pay
  • They are suggesting 5 cents to 20 cents
  • In this case I’m going to just put 1 cent
  • As soon as you put that in there it will give you an estimated reach over here so I get 400-500 views with a predicted budget spend of $5.00
  • For Targeting you can do demographics..in this case you can choose male or female, unknown
  • I suggest you leave this as it is..once you get the campaign
going you can also adjust this
  • Leave Interests as they are
  • You can also narrow your targeting..in this case you can choose Keywords, Placements..this is the videos that play before your video ad
  • Remarketing..these are remarketing lists of people that you’re targeting and topics but we going to leave it as is
  • Then we are just going to save the ad group
  • Click “save ad group”
  • Currently my ad is under review
  • This might take an hour or 2 for AdWords to approve it
  • The name of your campaign will show up in the left side
    here under video campaigns

And that’s all there is to it.

Should You Buy YouTube Views Using AdWords To Increase Rankings – Case Study

Several months ago I tried to rank a YouTube video on the first page of Google for the keyword phrase “Web Design Salisbury MD” Since the keyword phrase was not a really competitive one I thought it would be relatively easy to get it ranked.

After optimizing the title, description and tags and submitting to social bookmarking sites it ranked on the first page of Google videos but was no where to be found in Google search. After setting up a video ads campaign on Google AdWords it jumped to No 1 on Google.

Here’s how I set-up my video ads campaign

I started the campaign on August 17th and I didn’t get any views until August 20th where I got 796 views and August 21st I got 3,752 views and stopped the campaign on August 22nd and got no more views.

Here’s my video ad…
Professional web design,
Get a custom designed website,
Increase traffic, leads and sales

I got 4,548 views
I got a view rate of 24.62%
Average cost per view only 1 cent
And I paid a total cost of $58.52
49 clicks and a click through rate of 0.27%

Here are my campaign settings…
I set a budget of $5.00 a day
I targeted all languages and all countries and territories
For the ads I set up an in-stream ad and an in-display ad
For the in-stream ad my display URL is my website as well as the final URL is also my website

For my in-display ad I just set up the headline , description. second description. You can set it to your channel page on YouTube or the video watch page on YouTube which is what I did.

That’s it!

Keep these important things in mind when
setting up your video ads campaign..

1. Make sure you’ve optimized your title, description and tags.
2. Set up both in-stream and in-display video ads
3. Set your daily bid amount to $5.00 a day and
your maximum cost per view to 1 or 2 cents
4. Wait several days to see an increase in your rankings.
5. Rankings will vary depending on your niche. That’s it!

Now you know how to get first page rankings on
Google by setting up a video ads campaign.

How To Set-Up Targeting Options For YouTube Video Ads To Increase Conversions

Do you want to increase the conversion rates of your YouTube ads?
Do you want to reduce the cost per view or cost per click?

If you target the right audience with your YouTube Ads you’ll get a higher click through rate and it will only cost you a few cents to acquire a new lead.

A targeting group determines what YouTube users you want to reach.
Every video ad needs at least one targeting group to run on YouTube.

Here’s How To Set-Up The 6 Different
Targeting Options For Your YouTube Ads:

Watch the video below…

Click here to download the Video Ads Cheat Sheet

  • Login into your adwords account
  • Go down to “all video campaigns”
  • I am going to select the “Test 2” campaign
  • Go to settings
  • Click targets
  • Create a new targeting group so click the plus sign
  • Name the targeting group so I name it “targeting group 3”
  • Enter a maximum cost per views so in this case I’ll enter 6 cents

Targeting Groups

1. Demographic

This can be any gender, any age any parental status

2. Interests
a) Affinity audiences
These raise brand awareness and drive consideration with your video ads by reaching people who have already have a strong interest in your brand, product or service.
b) In-market audiences
Reach people who not only have a strong interest in your brand, product or service but are most likely to make a purchase or conversion.

Click on “narrow your targeting”

3. Topics
You can target by category like “arts and entertainment” or subcategory if you click on the plus sign. For example you’ve got “celebrity and entertainment news” so you can just click “add” and that adds it to the selected topics.

4. Remarketing
Remarketing lists reach viewers based on their past interactions with your videos or YouTube channel. I don’t have any video remarketing lists so I just click “done”

5. Keywords
The keywords that you add will target your ads to all the networks that you selected for your video campaigns. For instance if you enter “dog training” then you get a list of related keywords which you can add automatically.

6. Placements
With placements you can add unique websites or placements within those websites. These can include YouTube channels, videos or even websites within the Google display network. You can add these URLs manually or you can search for suggestions.

For example say you want to go to “dog training” it will give you some suggestions such as “youtube placements”. So I’ve got “Zak George’s Dog training revolution” “dog whisperer” etc so I can add all of these suggested videos. I can click on any of these videos and open them up in a new tab.

For example I’ve selected a video which has 4 million views so I can place my video in front of it to show my ad to their viewers.

Just click “save targeting group” when you want to continue.

When you select your targeting options you’ll see over on the right how many views per day you’ll get and also your average cost per view. This will change based upon your targeting options.

That’s it!

Here are 4 important things to keep in mind:

1. Placements, Keywords and Interests are the
best targeting options in that order.
2. Optimize your ads after running them for a few days
3. You can use the same video with different ad text and thumbnails
to compare which ad text variations perform best.
4. You can associate your ad with multiple targeting groups

Now you know the 6 different Targeting Options
that you can use with your YouTube Ads.

How To Create An Effective In-Stream Video Ad

In-stream video ads enable you to insert your ad at the beginning of other people’s YouTube video content so the first few seconds really count. If a person clicks on your ad within 30 seconds you won’t pay a cent.

Here are 5 suggestions to create an effective in-stream ad:

Watch the video below…

Click here to download the Video Ads Cheat Sheet

1. Grab viewers attention in the first 5 seconds
Ask a question or address the viewers biggest problem.

2. Make sure your video is engaging
Outline the benefits of your product or service related to the question you introduced at the beginning of your video.

3. Provide a call to action before the video ends
Give viewers a reason to take action right away.
Tell them what they’ll receive if they click on the video now.

4. Keep your video short and sweet
Play rates drop off significantly after 30-45 seconds so deliver your most important messages early in the video. Keep your message clear and simple so it will stand out.

5. Make sure your landing page content relates to your video content
Give your viewer a seamless experience by matching your landing page content with the content in your video. Avoid enticing the viewer with your video then directing them to a page that is irrelevant.

If you follow these 5 suggestions your In-Stream Video Ad will
get higher conversion rates and you’ll spend way less money.
