After researching all the keywords related to T-Shirts I found “custom t-shirts” received the most searches for the site Wild Lily Designs. However I will also include “spanish t-shirts” and “spanish shirts” in the web copy even though they these keywords don’t get as many searches. This is because these keywords most clearly reflect what I am selling.

Analyzing competing web sites gives you a good indication how much work you need to do to get top rankings for your keywords.
If there are not many competing web sites that return your primary keyword in the title, anchor text or url then you have a good chance of obtaining high rankings.
Here is how to find the number of competing sites using “custom-t-shirts” as the chosen keyword phrase:

Conclusion
If I wanted to get top rankings for the keyword “custom t-shirts” I would include this phrase in the title, anchor text and web site
address then work on getting more than 17,700 sites to link to my site. Since this is not my primary keyword phrase I could still
attract some traffic by writing an article custom t-shirt design (or something similar) and adding that article to my site.
