Did you know that YouTube is the second most popular search engine after Google (as of the time of this article). It receives billions of views every day. That means you should include YouTube in your marketing mix to attract some of that traffic to your web properties. Marketing on YouTube enables you to reach a wider audience particularly those that prefer to watch and listen to content rather than just reading it.
How to Make Your Own YouTube Videos
The type of videos you create will depend on what you are comfortable with. For instance if you are too bashful to appear on camera opt to create a slide show of your content. Another idea is to ask your audience what they prefer. Of course this may mean you’ll have to overcome your fears if they want to see you on camera.
1. Talking head
This simply means talking in front of a camera. For example take an article you’ve written and read it in front of your video camera. You could even use a web cam instead however the quality may not be as great. Watching a person talking can be very boring so make sure you have valuable content to share if you want to keep your viewer’s attention.
2. Slide show
This type of video is great if you don’t like appearing in front of a camera. To do this first create slides of your content using Power Point (alternatively use OpenOffice) then use screen capture software such as Camtasia to create a video of your slides.
Instant Video Articles is a program I often use to create my videos. It’s 2 programs in one. First you create slides from a template of your choice. After creating your series of slides you simple click a button to convert the slides to video then upload the video to YouTube within the program. The software saves you a lot of time and it even comes with audio files to add to your slides.
3. Screen capture
Screen Capture software like Camtasia enables you to record what you’re doing on your computer screen. For instance if you want to show people how to use some software you simply record the steps as you perform them on your screen.
I use Screenr to create a 5 minute (or less) “how-to” video because it’s a free online application that enables you to capture your computer screen and immediately publish your video to the web.
Choose one of these methods to make your own YouTube videos. After you become proficient with one method expand your capabilities by mastering the others. This will give you the flexibility to use any method based on what works best for your niche.
