How To Become A YouTube Partner To Monetize Your Videos

  • Do you want to make money from your YouTube videos?
  • Do you want to have more tools available to promote your videos?
  • Do you want to reach a larger audience?

Creating a YouTube video is one the the most effective ways to promote your business because videos engage your visitors far more effectively than textual content. YouTube is also the second largest search engine after Google (and Google owns YouTube). This means you can tap into this large audience to generate more traffic and sales.

Most online marketers are not aware of all the benefits for joining YouTube’s partner program so they miss out on a lot of traffic. One great example is the ability to utilize custom thumbnails. Instead of YouTube randomly selecting one of the 3 thumbnail images it automatically generates you can create your own thumbnail image that clearly illustrates what your video is about. The image also stands out amongst all the listings within Google’s search results causing visitors to click on your YouTube video instead of going elsewhere.

So how do you become a YouTube Partner?

1. Check if your account is eligible

Your YouTube account must be in good standing. This means you’ve never violated the terms of service or community guidelines. I strongly suggest you visit these links so you won’t be surprised if your account gets shut down for uploading videos you didn’t make, or using content in your videos that someone else owns the copyright to.

To become a partner, you must opt in your account and have at least one video enabled for advertising.

2. Enable your channel for monetization

  • Visit the Monetization tab in your account settings.
  • If your account is in good standing and hasn’t been previously disabled for monetization, click “Enable My Account”.
  • Follow the steps to accept the YouTube Monetization agreement.

That’s it!

If you see the message “Your monetization tab has been disabled,” this means your account isn’t eligible for monetization. You may have previously violated YouTube’s terms of service.

Tip
After you’ve activated YouTube partner status and enabled monetization ads will appear on all your videos. The ads distract viewers from watching your video and often block viewers from seeing your call to action (which prevents them from visiting your landing page).

Instead go through all the videos in your video manager and “uncheck” the box that allows YouTube to place ads on your videos. Leave a few videos checked (especially the unpopular ones) so you can still utilize all the powerful promotion tools for the videos you wish to promote.
